Single Lady Beetle

One single ladybug
upon the petals pink.

Enough to thrill me,
unwrap my childhood glee,
take me back to
pure and natural naïvety;

my hair wrapped up
atop my head messily,
but I feel it fall
into playful pigtails
and hear my childhood
call, giggling.

I am such a nature freak,
perhaps geek.
Probably both.

But it’s been seven years
since I’ve seen one of these,
after having moved to the South.

What a special surprise!
What could I find
to read in the sign?…

  1. Beautiful shots, Laura, and wonderful words. I too find that my affinity for bugs and other crawling things brings me back to the simpler days of my childhood, before the weight of adult responsibilities forced me to spend too much of my time on the supposedly more “serious” pursuits that come with being an adult. 🙂

    1. I think of you now whenever I see a dragonfly and shake my head at the elusive flier; I don’t even try… I will live through your captures, oh mighty Dragonfly Whisperer Mike. 🙂

      1. I too am amazed by the smallest (and biggest) critters.

I actually saw an animal yesterday I’m still trying to identify. It was a beaver looking critter with a fuzzy tail. I’m thinking it was a woodchuck. I’ve never seen anything like it around here…

I haven’t posted much lately so it should be easy to catch up when you can. 🙂

                  1. Sounds interesting! I don’t judge you 😁

I still have a poetry book sitting stagnant in Amazon after 3 years.. can’t bring myself to get it together and officially publish it…
