Battle Stories

So many stories, unknown, untold,

hidden, buried, dusty bones

in the cellars of homes,

poking out of backpacks and briefcases

symbols of death slowly deteriorating us.

So many stories, unknown, untold,

patchwork squares, split apart

in separate homes,

incomplete, forgotten, frayed pieces

yearning a common thread,

dreaming of the Needle.

What if we started to tell our stories,

bury the masks, unearth our souls?

Bring the bones to the offering and

combine puzzle pieces to build skeletons whole,

the framework hidden within us all,

then sew together the tattered textiles

to craft a colorful, textured tapestry,

and gather round the fire

and begin to share the stories.
